New Job, New Town, New Career

9/22/2022

I am pleased and proud to be the new Executive Director of the Chattanooga Symphony and Opera. I have also taken a more significant role in Sewanee, serving now as the new Director of the Sewanee Music Center, overseeing the Artistic Mission of both the University Performing Arts Series and the Summer Music Festival.

I will miss my students at George Mason, and the DC area, which was home to me for 20 years ( as well as my more formative years age 11-18).

The opportunity to lead a professional orchestra with an opera company, a choir and four youth orchestras was something I could not pass up.  I was, indeed,  left with many opportunities to "look good," and I'm doing my very best to exploit those opportunities!

Sewanee is a wonderful academic home. I am thrilled to be there regularly during the academic year ( Sewanee is 50 minutes from downtown Chattanooga, roughly the same time as my former commute in DC). We are planning to build an arts leadership certificate, more fully connect the Summer Music Festival to the academic program

Also - I am still performing, though much of my 2022-2023 season will be devoted to getting my arms around Chattanooga and Sewanee, I do plan to keep my hands in shape, and look forward to hitting the road next season (23-24) to play a few concertos and.. well I'll keep some things as a surprise.
I hope to write more often, and share my experiences as an artistic leader, programmer, and entrepreneur.
